Working with adult learners
Monday 7 July 2008
Imperial War Museum North, Manchester
This was an opportunity to develop an awareness and understanding of how to work
with and provide for adult learners.
The first half of the day looked at the current adult learner agenda in the
North West. This was followed by exploring the many ways in which museums
and galleries can provide for this wide audience and possible funding sources.
After lunch the In Touch programme, a joint project between Manchester
Museum and the Imperial War Museum North, was showcased with practical
activities and discussion opportunities. This project has developed an
innovative volunteer training programme that builds self-esteem and confidence
combined with literacy and basic core skills to improve the quality of life and
employability of adults.
The day was aimed at people thinking of working with adult learners or would
like to provide services that meet their needs.
