Mind your Language: The Robert Burns Birthplace Museum and Scots language in today’s curriculum

Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, Alloway, Ayr
The newly-opened Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway provides
an ideal venue to consider the place and potential of Scots language
activities. A language in its own right, Scots is now an important
part of Curriculum for Excellence, and its use in schools has been
linked to improvements in all-round literacy, self-esteem and
motivation.

minimal this is a difficult time for cultural organisations. However this drives
us to think more creatively about what we do, where we source funds and how we
attract visitors.

Scottish History and A Curriculum for Excellence –
Opportunities and challenges for the
heritage sector

An opportunity to learn about the funding programmes of the Heritage Lottery Fund, and Scottish Museums Council and to hear from colleagues about their experiences of making successful applications to other funding bodies. There was group discussion around funding issues and upcoming national events - Olympics/Commonwealth Games.
