Healing Division -
Do museums have a role?
Tuesday 7 to Saturday 11 September 2004 -
Belfast
Northern Ireland has come through
decades of conflict and division, and the museum sector is looking forward to
a brighter future for all. How have museums tackled issues of division? What
are the main challenges facing divided societies today?
The conference will examine the contributions made by museums in developing a peaceful and stable environment as well as exploring some of the issues such as community relations, conflict resolution, asylum, integration, access to our museum’s treasures and the digital divide. Speakers include David Anderson (V&A), Dan McCall ( Department of Education NI), Chris Bailey (Northern Ireland Museums Council), Victoria Hollows (Glasgow Museum of Modern Art), Julie Street ( MAL), Duncan Morrow (Community Relations Council), Martin Bazley (ICT4Learning), Mike Greenwood (Culture Online), and Sir Kenneth Bloomfield (MAGNI and Commissioner on the Victims’ Strategy).
Delegates will also have an opportunity to learn more about Northern Ireland’s unique cultural heritage and diversity.
