GEM National Training Day

 Thursday 30 November 2006
SHOULD ALL MUSEUMS BE
“FAMILY FRIENDLY”?

Should all museums and galleries strive to be ‘family friendly’?  Is there a need for ‘adult only’ museum spaces?  This day will explore these and other issues, through case studies and lively debate
Kelvingrove Museum & Art Galleries, Glasgow

Speakers will include:

We are delighted to be holding this event in Glasgow’s flagship Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery, which re-opened in July 2006, following a major three year HLF-funded refurbishment.  There will be an opportunity to explore some of Kelvingrove’s new learning zones aimed at schools and family audiences and to hear from education staff, Sue Latimer and Janice Lane, about the practical application of the new displays in attracting and maintaining audiences.

During the afternoon delegates are invited to share innovative ideas regarding activities, evaluation and facilities they have developed especially for families. The day will concentrate on some of the skills and techniques needed for this ever expanding role, and provide tips and ideas to assist you with your continuing professional development.

Refreshments and lunch will be provided.

The day will begin at 10.00 with registration and tea/coffee, and will end at 16.30.  The full programme will be available shortly.
