Clodagh Cherry  As well as the Learning Development Officer for this project, Clodagh is Learning and Access Officer for Stoke on Trent and lives in North Wales

This session will take a look at learning styles and some of the theories behind learning. There will be a chance to find out what type of learner you are. We will also look at learning for all staff.

11.30       First person interpretation for beginners

Ruth Bradburn        Ruth graduated from UWIC in 2000 with a degree in the History and Theory of Art and Design.  She worked in Ulster Museum, Belfast as a Volunteer in the Education Department before gaining a position as Education Support Officer at the National Roman Legion Museum.  Five years later Ruth moved to Cyfarthfa Castle as Education and Interpretation Officer where for the last three years she has worked with families and school groups.

 

First person interpretation for beginners will be a ‘hands on’ workshop aimed to provide Museum professionals who are new to this form of interpretation, with the basic skills to develop their own sessions.

 

12.00       Artifacts – what are they?

Ann Mansell  – worked in the NHS, while involved in voluntary childrens’ work. She graduated with BSc in 2002, qualifying to teach in 2003. She taught in a variety of schools before moving into museum education at the Usk Rural Life Museum, an independent, volunteer run museum on the Welsh/English Borders. Since taking up the post she has developed schools involvement, web based information and a passion for outreach work.

The session looks at what kinds of things we can learn artefacts as tangible evidence of history. How can we frame questions, think about and work with artefacts? A short photo quiz gives a different view.

 

12.45       Working with your community

Michelle Planck - graduated from Cardiff University in 2002 in Ancient and Medieval History before completing an MA in Museum Studies. After volunteering in the Egypt Centre in Swansea University, she worked for the National Museum of Wales documenting archaeology and industrial history collections. For the past 15 months, she has been responsible for setting up and developing the access and outreach service at Cyfarthfa Castle Museum and Art Gallery

 

A session for museums that are looking to attract and engage with members of their local community. Includes advice on how your museum can target and attract different groups by tailoring activities, projects and events to their interests.

Ruth Bradburn  Practical advice aimed at anyone with a modest budget.

 

14.45       Building a Learning Legacy cymru

Clodagh Cherry  will lead a discussion as to how to take forward in this area the provision of peer to peer support in museum learning

A chance to share ideas for resources such as booking forms and trails.
