Clodagh Cherry As well as the Learning Development Officer for this project, Clodagh is Learning and Access Officer for Stoke on Trent and lives in North Wales

 

This session will take a look at learning styles and some of the theories behind learning. There will be a chance to find out what type of learner you are. We will also look at learning for all staff.

 

11.00       Education at Bodelwyddan Castle

Morrigan Ellis Born and raised in North Wales, Morrigan worked previously at Manchester Art Gallery as Strategic Commissioning project officer and later as Curator of Outreach.  She moved to Bodelwyddan in 2005 as Learning & Curatorial Officer and continues to have responsibility for education, exhibitions and collections.

 

Bodelwyddan Castle Trust was established almost 20 years ago as an organisation with education as its primary purpose.  This session introduces the range of educational activity the Castle currently carries out and looks at the challenges faced by balancing a social inclusion agenda with essential income generation

Jill Burton
  Education Officer at Erddig and Chirk Castle. Born and raised in the Midlands, Jill has lived in the Wrexham area for the last 35 years.  Originally a primary school teacher she then became a college lecturer in early years education and has worked for The National Trust for 17 years.  She was appointed in the early days of the National Curriculum to develop education programmes at Erddig and Chirk Castle in line with teachers requirements.

 

Erddig and Chirk Castle welcome over 200,000 visitors a year. Jill will be talking about how their unique collections are used to develop learning and bring history alive for visitors of all ages, and with regard to the Trust's aims of conservation and access.

Clodagh Cherry will lead a discussion as to how to take forward in this area the provision of peer to peer support in museum learning

1.45       Inspired By… developing links with the
              lifelong learning sector

Laura Whitley is currently studying for her MA in Museum Studies and is responsible for a range of services offered at Bodelwyddan Castle.

 

This session looks in detail at a recent CyMAL-funded project aimed at developing links with the lifelong learning sector in the region and promoting the value of using museum objects as inspiration for learning and creativity.  Laura was the officer appointed to deliver the project and continues to work on a number of initiatives that have emerged as a result of the project activity.

Morrigan Ellis will lead a hands-on session, playing with the interactive resources at Bodelwyddan Castle - An opportunity to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of low and high-tech interactives and their use by a range of different audiences.
