The day is
for those who:
-
are new to heritage learning
-
have just started in a role that involves learning
-
have to do everything, including learning, at a heritage organisation
-
would like to explore working with schools
-
would like to know more about recent developments in the national curriculum
-
would like to find out about schools-focused learning in their local area and meet learning peers
Background
The new national curriculum highlights the importance of experience-based
learning. Heritage organisations provide perfect environments for this sort
of learning outside the classroom. By developing relationships with schools,
museums and other heritage organisations can contribute to the welfare of
young people at the same time as meeting important government agendas and
developing audiences for the future. This day provides an opportunity to
understand some of the changes in the curriculum and how you can work in
innovative ways with schools on limited resources.
Content
We are drawing on the expertise and experience of organisations and
individuals in the local area, so an element of the programmes will vary
from venue to venue. But each day will cover the following key areas:
-
An introduction to the skills framework
-
A teacher’s perspective on visiting museums and other heritage organisations
-
Learning through play – early years
-
Looking at the schools learning programme of a local heritage organisation
-
Tips & guidance on evaluation & feedback
Outcomes
-
Clearer understanding of key elements of the new national curriculum
-
Practical ideas for evaluating learning
-
Practical ideas for building relationships with schools
-
Meeting peers and making useful contacts in your local area
-
