The day is
for those who:
-
are new to heritage learning
-
have just started in a role that involves learning
-
have to do everything, including learning, at a heritage organisation
-
would like a refresher on delivering learning
-
would like to explore some innovative ways of inspiring visitors
-
would like to find out about heritage learning in their local area and meet peers
Background
Heritage organisations provide invaluable environments for learning. Using
collections, spaces and expertise museums and other heritage sites can offer
learning that enhances the skills, knowledge and welfare of a whole host of
groups and individuals. By offering learning activities and resources
heritage organisations can develop new audiences, enhance visitor numbers
and build relationships with other organisations in the local community.
This day will look at what learning can look like in a heritage organisation
and explore practical ideas for delivering learning on a limited budget.
Content
We are drawing on the expertise and experience of organisations and
individuals in the local area, so an element of the programmes will vary
from venue to venue. But each day will cover the following key areas:
-
What is learning? Who, what, why, where, how
-
A closer look at the learning programme of a local heritage organisation
-
A step by step guide to planning a school visit
-
Practical learning activities (i.e. object handling, running workshops etc)
-
An introduction to informal learning (working with families, local community groups, older learners, special interest groups etc)
Outcomes
-
Practical ideas for developing learning in your organisation
-
A fuller understanding of the potential for learning in your organisation
-
Meeting peers and making useful contacts in your local area
